Osasuna trains ahead of Levante matchup
The coach addressed the media ahead of the season opener
Osasuna head coach Luis Miguel Ramis addressed the media ahead of Monday’s season opener against Levante at El Sadar—his official debut as a Rojillo. During the news conference, Ramis emphasized the importance of starting the season strong.
“We want a good start because it sets the tone. Our focus has to be on getting that first win, then pushing for the second. We cannot waste any minutes or opportunities.
“Tomorrow, we have our first chance, and we are going to seize it by following the game plan we have developed, knowing how challenging this match will be. Our players are ready to play as many minutes as necessary, pushing themselves to the limit. We know it’s the start of the season, so there might be mistakes, discomfort and more fatigue than usual. Our bench is ready to step in when needed.
Ramis was asked about schedule changes after last week’s postponement, which means the team must now play three matches in seven days.
“We have been working all week for this match. Last week, we prepared for the game against Vigo, but it was postponed. What we worked on is still relevant and something to consider. This week, we had time to prepare, but we won’t be able to do much for the third game, as we will manage the workload in training.
“Regardless, we are ready; it is our responsibility. We are going to give it our all and not hold anything back. We will manage the three matches this week, but the players’ focus is on the next game. Everyone knows they will have a role to play this week.”
“Our game plan is to be balanced.”
Regarding the match, Ramis highlighted the importance of being balanced, staying organized without the ball, and remaining fully focused, noting that any distraction could be crucial.
“Our game plan is to be well-balanced. We have to be mindful when we don’t have the ball and stay organized. We all know opponents can control the match, so we have to be ready to respond. How many times have we seen a throw-in decide the match because we were distracted?
“We have to be ready for anything—tactics, set pieces, fouls, corners, even the kickoff if possible. The goal is for the team to feel comfortable and manage the match. Players need to recognize what is needed in each moment: how high to press, when to go through the middle or the flanks, when to let the opponent play, and when to take advantage of a counterattack based on who is on the field. Reading the game will be essential.”
