Osasuna re-signs Raúl García through 2030-31 season
The club reaches an agreement with the Catalan coach for two seasons
Club Atlético Osasuna has named Luis Miguel Ramis as head coach for the next two seasons. The Catalan coach will lead the team through June 30, 2028. Ramis will bring his coaching staff: first assistant José Manuel Gil, second assistant Iván Madroño, physical trainer Miguel Ángel Fernández and analyst José Fajardo. Ramis will be officially presented Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a news conference at El Sadar.
Luis Miguel Ramis Monfort, born July 25, 1970, in Tarragona, will coach for the first time in LaLiga EA Sports after spending 10 years in Spain's second tier. He arrives in Navarre after a successful stint with Burgos Club de Fútbol, where he led the team to 72 points—an amount that, for the first time, was not enough to secure a promotion playoff spot. He also helped Burgos develop a balanced and competitive style of play, making them the team with the least goals conceded, third in fewest losses, sixth in most wins and third-best on the road.
After a long playing career, Ramis began coaching in Real Madrid’s youth system, where he also served as the academy’s methodology director. He was appointed manager of Real Madrid Castilla after Zinedine Zidane was promoted to the first team, and guided the reserve side to a first-place finish in its Segunda División B group.
His next opportunity came with UD Almería, which he joined with 12 matches remaining in the season while the club was second from bottom in Spain’s second division. He secured Almería’s survival with a record of seven wins, one draw and four losses, although his time with the club ended early the following season.
Ramis then took charge of Albacete, leading the club to an outstanding 2018-19 season. Albacete finished fourth, reached the promotion playoffs and ended the campaign as the second-highest scoring team in the division behind champion Osasuna. He later guided Tenerife to another promotion playoff appearance in 2021-22. During his three-year tenure with the Canary Islands club, he built a defensively solid side that conceded an average of just 0.85 goals per game.
After 14 matches of the 2023-24 season, he was appointed head coach of Espanyol. However, with 12 games left, the club parted ways with him despite the team being third in the standings and just one point off the automatic promotion places.
He subsequently took over a struggling Burgos side midway through the season and led the club to a comfortable finish in 2024-25, ending the campaign 10 points clear of the relegation zone. Given the chance to start the following season from the outset, he oversaw Burgos’ best campaign in Spain’s second division since 1975-76, when the club earned promotion to the top flight.
Now 55 and at the height of his coaching career, Ramis takes on a new challenge as head coach of Osasuna in LaLiga.
