Osasuna Falls to Alavés, 5-2

Club Atlético Osasuna (2-1-1, 7 points) fell to Alavés (3-1-0, 10 points) at Mendizorrotza, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. Forward Ante Budimir’s two goals were not enough to prevent the team’s first loss of the season.

The match began with Budimir breaking through for a one-on-one against goalkeeper Antonio Sivera. In the fifth minute, Los Rojillos regained possession and midfielder Moi Gómez played a quick pass to the Croatian international. After dribbling past a defender, Budimir found himself in front of Sivera, but the goalkeeper denied his effort. The contest evened out, with Los Gloriosos seeing a chance cleared off the line by defender Enzo Boyomo. In the 27th minute, forward Lucas Boyé scored from distance to give Alavés the lead. Five minutes later, forward Mariano Díaz doubled the advantage. As halftime approached, Osasuna pressed for a response but could not break through.

Early in the second half, Osasuna cut the deficit as Gómez found Budimir in the box, and the striker headed home. But Boyé quickly responded with his second of the day to restore Alavés’ two-goal advantage, making it 3-1. Head coach Luis Miguel Ramis made three substitutions, including bringing on forward Raúl Moro. Soon after entering, Moro set up Budimir, who was fouled inside the box by forward Abde Rebbach, resulting in a penalty for Osasuna. Budimir converted from the spot to make it 3-2. However, as before, Boyé completed his hat trick to put the match out of reach. In the 90^th minute, midfielder Pablo Ibáñez capped the scoring with a close-range header.

Osasuna will now face Espanyol on Saturday, Sept. 12, at El Sadar. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. CET (3:15 p.m. BST, 10:15 a.m. ET).
