Osasuna loses to Al Ain in final preseason match

CA Osasuna lost 2-0 to Al Ain in its final preseason friendly Saturday night at El Sadar. The Emirati club took the lead at the end of the first half on a goal by Soufiane Rahimi and secured the win when Jonatas Santos scored on a counterattack.

Osasuna controlled possession early, pressing to break down Al Ain’s defense. As the half progressed, play evened out, but Osasuna remained threatening, with long-range shots from midfielder Aimar and defender Iñigo Arregui. In the 45th minute, Al Ain capitalized on a counterattack as Soufiane Rahimi scored past goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. Defender Alejandro Catena nearly equalized with a header off a corner, but Al Ain goalkeeper Khalid Eisa made the save.

Osasuna kept up the pressure in the second half, creating several chances. Forward Raúl Moro came closest to scoring in the 55th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar. As Al Ain regained possession, midfielder Ibrahima Junior set up Georgios Giakoumakis, who assisted Jonatas Santos for the second goal in the 73rd minute. Despite Osasuna’s efforts, Los Rojillos could not find the net.

Osasuna now turns its attention to its LaLiga opener at Celta Vigo on Saturday, Aug. 16. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. ET).
