Osasuna Closes Preseason with 2-2 Draw Against SC Freiburg

Osasuna concluded its preseason with a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg at Europa Park Stadion on Saturday afternoon. Los Rojillos entered the second period of the match, which was divided into three 45-minute segments, thrilling 1-0. However, equalized in the second period with goals from Aimar and Raúl García, while the home side leveled the score late in the third period through a penalty kick.

Osasuna dominated the early stages of the match, controlling possession and generating several opportunities. Ante Budimir provided the first chance with a volley, which the goalkeeper saved. Minutes later, the Rojillo attack nearly opened the scoring as Valentín Rosier delivered a cross from the right flank to the near post, but neither Aimar nor Budimir could connect with the ball. The first period ended with Freiburg taking the lead, with an own goal by Moi Gómez, who inadvertently redirected the ball into his net while attempting to clear it.

In the second period, head coach Alessio Lisci’s squad continued to press for an equalizer. Moi Gómez initially found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed as Budimir was ruled offside in the buildup. Enzo Boyomo and Lucas Torró also had chances that were thwarted by Freiburg's defense. In the 69th minute, Aimar finally leveled the match, scoring from 18 yards out after receiving a well-timed pass from Raúl. Ten minutes later, Raúl completed the comeback, slotting the ball in from close range following a scramble in front of goal.

In the final period, Osasuna aimed to maintain its lead, showcasing a strong defensive performance. Goalkeeper Aitor Fernández made a vital save in injury time. However, as the match drew to a close, the referee pointed to the spot after Mauro Echegoyen committed a foul. Junior Adamu successfully converted the penalty, sealing the final score.

Osasuna now turns its attention to the upcoming regular season, with its first official match of the 2025-26 season against Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, at 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET).
