Alessio Lisci: 'We Thank the Fans and I Apologize; Now We Focus on Giving Everything Against Getafe'

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci addressed the media in a press conference following his team’s 2-1 loss to Espanyol.

"Things have turned sour, and that’s it. We have to focus on Getafe and give everything we have," Lisci said. "Today is not the day to analyze the match; that’s obvious. Doing so would be useless. Today, we thank the fans, and I have to apologize to them. The team did its best."

Lisci continued to discuss the team's current situation and emphasized the importance of getting a result against Getafe in the final match of the season.

"The game is over; there’s nothing we can do about it. We have to hold our heads high and prepare to give everything against Getafe. That’s it. We have no Plan B. These days, we have to work on the emotional side and process it—that’s the important part. Tomorrow, the team will wake up with their heads held high, and we will begin to believe, because that’s what we have to do."

Lisci, 40, also addressed the team’s position in the standings and took responsibility for the situation.

"Starting today, we are going to have a bad day, and we have to experience it, because now that we have gotten a taste, we won’t want to experience it again. Tomorrow, we will work through it with our heads held high. Obviously, it caught us off guard, because it’s unimaginable that with 42 points we would be here. It’s our fault for seeking wins in matches that could have ended in draws. It’s my fault. I am ready; I have gone through similar situations before. The team is amazing, and I am certain they will give everything—of that I am sure. There’s nothing more to it," Lisci said.
