Osasuna fell to Real Sociedad in a preseason match at Zubieta, where the home side capitalized on their offensive opportunities to claim a convincing victory. After a tightly contested first half, Takefusa Kubo broke the deadlock three minutes before the break. Real Sociedad asserted their dominance in the second half, extending their lead with goals from Jon Karrikaburu, Andri Óskarsson—who converted from the penalty spot—and Beñat Turrientes. Kike Barja scored Osasuna’s lone goal late in the match.

Neither team produced clear chances in the early stages of the opening half. Osasuna looked composed in defense, effectively neutralizing Real Sociedad’s initial attacking efforts. As the match progressed beyond the 20-minute mark, both sides began to generate chances. Víctor M. V., one of Osasuna’s most active players in attack, created several openings with his pace down the left flank, though the visitors were unable to convert.

Just as the first half appeared to be heading into halftime scoreless, Kubo found the net with a well-struck left-footed shot from the edge of the box to put the hosts ahead. Osasuna responded quickly with a promising team move, but Ante Budimir was unable to finish inside the area following a cross from Víctor M. V.

The second half started unfavorably for Osasuna. In the 52nd minute, Karrikaburu doubled Real Sociedad’s lead by finishing a low cross from the right. Ten minutes later, the referee awarded a penalty to the home side after Herrando brought down Óskarsson, who converted the spot kick to make it 3–0. Past the hour mark, Turrientes added a fourth with a well-placed finish from another delivery from the right flank.

Osasuna showed more attacking intent in the closing stages. Pedroarena tried his luck from distance, but his shot went wide. Kike Barja eventually pulled one back with a right-footed strike from the top of the box in the 75th minute.

Real Sociedad were reduced to 10 men late in the match after Pacheco was sent off for a foul on Ander Yoldi. However, numerical parity was restored shortly after when Iker Benito was forced off due to injury.

With the defeat, Osasuna records its first loss in three preseason friendlies. The team will return to training Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Tajonar, in a session open to the public. Alessio Lisci’s side will play its next friendly on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. against Racing Club at Stadium Gal in Irun.

ALESSIO LISCI: “We must not look for excuses, if the team is not capable of doing certain things we must change”.
