Alessio Lisci: “The team made a big effort, but we’re still not winning away from home, and that has to change”

Los Rojillos fall short on their visit to Riyadh Air Metropolitano
Club Atlético Osasuna (3-1-5, 10 points) lost by a narrow margin on its visit to Atlético de Madrid (4-4-1, 16 points), as forward Thiago Almada scored the winner in the second half.
The game started with Atlético de Madrid appearing to score early through midfielder Álex Baena. The goal was called back after VAR determined that forward Antoine Griezmann was in an offside position and had impeded defender Enzo Boyomo from attempting to stop the play. Shortly after, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was called into action when he stopped a dangerous shot from Griezmann.
Los Rojillos responded soon after, with forward Víctor Muñoz collecting the ball near midfield, dribbling to the edge of the box, and firing a shot that missed the target by inches. Midfielder Lucas Torró had another opportunity following a free kick, but goalkeeper Jan Oblak parried away his angled shot. Following those chances, both teams kept each other at bay until halftime.
In the second half, the home side started strong and created two opportunities. Forward Julián Álvarez’s shot was stopped by Herrera’s foot, and forward Alexander Sørloth saw his header go over the crossbar. Forward Ante Budimir then had two back-to-back chances, but Atlético’s defenders cleared the danger.
Los Rojillos pushed forward after making several substitutions and changing formation. As they increased the pressure, Osasuna attempted multiple crosses and came close in the 89th minute. Midfielder Moi Gómez recovered the ball, drove into the box past two defenders, and laid it off to Budimir, but Oblak denied his shot.
Osasuna’s next match is set for Sunday, Oct. 26, at El Sadar against Celta in Week 10 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CET (5:30 p.m. GMT / 1:30 p.m. ET).
Minutes: 94min.
