Osasuna Calls 22 Players for Season Finale Against Getafe
Forward Ante Budimir goal caps dominant performance by Los Rojillos
Osasuna (10-7-12, 37 points) defeated Girona (8-10-11, 34 points) 1-0 at El Sadar on Saturday thanks to a late goal from forward Ante Budimir, sealing a strong overall performance by the home side.
Los Rojillos controlled the game for long stretches and created numerous chances throughout. In a commanding first half, the hosts dictated play and came close to opening the scoring on several occasions. Forward Víctor Muñoz tested goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga twice in quick succession, forcing two key saves. Girona attempted to respond, but Osasuna remained solid defensively and dangerous on the break. Further chances fell to defender Enzo Boyomo, whose header was saved, and again to Muñoz, who fired narrowly wide.
Girona improved after the break, enjoying more possession and pushing closer to goalkeeper Sergio Herrera’s goal. Osasuna, however, continued to threaten in transition, with Muñoz remaining a constant attacking outlet. As the match progressed, the hosts regained control and created additional chances, including a long-range effort from midfielder Iker Muñoz.
The breakthrough finally came in the closing minutes. Víctor Muñoz led a surging run from his own half before feeding midfielder Kike Barja, who delivered a precise ball into the area for Budimir to score the winner. Girona pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Osasuna nearly added a second in stoppage time when forward Raúl García was denied in a one-on-one by Gazzaniga.
The team will now head into the international break and will return to action on April 5, visiting Deportivo Alavés at Mendizorrotza.
