Osasuna earns its second road win after defeating Valladolid 3-2
A brace by forward Ante Budimir and one by midfielder Rubén García sealed the win for Los Rojillos.
Club Atlético Osasuna (9-14-9, 41 points) earned its second road win of the season Sunday, defeating Real Valladolid (4-4-24, 16 points) 3-2 at Estadio José Zorrilla.
Forward Ante Budimir led the way with a brace, while midfielder Rubén García added a first-half goal. Budimir's performance marked his fifth brace of the season—and fourth in league play—bringing his tally to 18 goals in LaLiga EA Sports and 21 across all competitions.
Osasuna came out with urgency and nearly took the lead in the opening minutes, as midfielder Jon Moncayola, who was later forced off with a muscle injury, came inches from scoring. The visitors' bright start was rewarded in the 10th minute when García delivered a pinpoint cross to Budimir, who buried a powerful header to open the scoring.
Valladolid responded with increased pressure, but goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was up to the task. Just after the half-hour mark, Osasuna doubled its lead with a well-worked team goal, capped off by García's finish from a Jesús Areso cross.
The hosts cut the deficit early in the second half, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to make it 2-1 just five minutes after the restart. Valladolid pressed for an equalizer, but Osasuna regained control. After defender Abel Bretones narrowly missed, Budimir converted from the penalty spot to restore the two-goal cushion at 3-1.
Valladolid quickly answered with a penalty of its own, converted by forward Mamadou Sylla to bring it back to 3-2. Osasuna saw out the final minutes with composure, limiting chances and securing the three points.
Osasuna returns to El Sadar on Thursday, April 24, to host Sevilla FC in Week 33 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CET (6 p.m. BST / 1 p.m. ET).
