Osasuna earns a point in a 0-0 draw against Athletic Club at San Mamés
Los Rojillos leave one of LaLiga's most challenging venues with a clean sheet.
Club Atlético Osasuna (7-13-9, 34 points) earns a road point in a scoreless draw against Athletic Club (14-11-5, 53 points) at San Mamés on Sunday afternoon. Los Rojillos had their chances, particularly in the opening and closing stages of the match, while also shutting down an Athletic Club side that, on the occasions it created danger, was denied by a strong performance from goalkeeper Aitor Fernández.
Osasuna came out with high intensity and, in the opening moments, generated a series of corner kicks, leading to their best match opportunity. Midfielder Lucas Torró headed a well-delivered cross from midfielder Jon Moncayola, but the ball struck the post. As the first half progressed, the Basque side pushed head coach Vicente Moreno’s team deeper into their half. However, Osasuna responded with hard work, neutralizing Athletic’s attacking threats and creating danger on the counter. Fernández stepped up late in the first half, making key saves against shots from forward Nico Williams Jr. and defender Yuri Berchiche.
After the break, the match followed a similar pattern. Osasuna maintained its defensive solidity and clarity of play, with another outstanding save from Fernández preventing the hosts from taking the lead. In the final minutes, the Navarrese side pushed forward, and defender Rubén Peña had a golden opportunity, only to be denied by an excellent stop from goalkeeper Unai Simón.
