Jagoba Arrasate: "We achieved a very deserved victory"
Club Atlético Osasuna (3-2-4, 11 points) defeated Real Racing Club (2-2-5, 8 points) 2-0 on Sunday at El Sadar Stadium in head coach Jagoba Arrasate’s first game back at the helm. Forward Ante Budimir converted an early penalty, and midfielder Asier Osambela added a late goal to secure the victory.
Osasuna started strong, creating several chances. Before the fifth minute, a goal by forward Jonathan Dubasin was disallowed for offside in the build-up. In the seventh minute, defender Jeanuël Belocian fouled Budimir in the area, and the referee awarded a penalty to the hosts. Budimir, the Croatian international, converted from the spot to make it 1-0.
Racing settled into the match but failed to trouble Osasuna goalkeeper Aitor Fernández. The hosts continued to press, with midfielder Rubén García heading wide and Dubasin seeing another effort ruled out for offside. Dubasin then forced goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala to make a save on the goal line. In first-half stoppage time, forward Yassir Zabiri fired wide for Racing from outside the box.
In the second half, Osasuna regained control and nearly doubled the lead with efforts from García and Budimir. García’s shot drifted just wide, while Budimir hit the side netting. Racing enjoyed more possession but were limited to long-range attempts that rarely tested Fernández. In the final minutes, defender Iñigo Arguibide led a swift counterattack, unleashing a powerful shot that forced a save, and Osambela slotted home the rebound to make it 2-0.
Osasuna visits Sevilla on Monday, Oct. 26, at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. CET (7 p.m. BST, 3 p.m. ET).
