Osasuna Calls 22 Players for Season Finale Against Getafe
The Rojillo gaffer spoke about the importance of today's win
Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci spoke to themedia after his team’s 3-2 victory over Real Oviedo, calling it a crucial win.
“It’s a very important victory,” Lisci said. “I told the team today theyhad to do it for themselves, because the other day they deserved more, and on other days — like in Girona — they also deserved more. In the end, they earned a moment of joy like this. And the way we won — obviously scoring in the last minute — always gives you a much bigger lift. I’m happy for the players and, of course, for the fans, who were tremendous as always, helping us and pushing usuntil the final minute. It was incredible.”
Analyzing the match, Lisci said it was “a typical game between two teams that press high.”
“When both teams are constantly pressing, you getthis kind of match,” he said. “When you beat the press, there’s an immediate counter, which becomes a scoring chance. That’s why there were so many opportunities for both sides.”
Asked about his substitutions, Lisci explained that the match had become very open.
“The game was very stretched, and the only question in my mind was whether to try to slow it down or not,” he said. “We had a substitution to try to control it, but sometimes you have to make decisions. Against Celta it didn’t work and we conceded, today it worked. Even if we had brought on a more defensive player, the script would have been the same. With the pressing, either they broke through or we won the ball, and itwas chance after chance. I don’t think it would have changed much. I took a risk, we kept pushing to win any way we could, and we did.”
Lisci also praised his team’s mentality andthe role of the supporters.
“The team is incredible, but there were moments — we started very well, then between the 15th and 20th minutes they had two corners in a row and it felt suffocating,” he said. “The team felt it, but luckily the fans are amazing. They push us and always give us energy. In the second half they carried us, when another crowd might have been much tougher on us.”
“I want to thank the fans for getting involved and pushing us so hard to win,” Lisci added.
