Alessio Lisci: 'Happy With Comeback, But First-Half Struggles Still Matter'

The Italian coach addressed the media following today's 2-2 draw against Mallorca

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci addressed the media at El Sadar Stadium after his team's 2-2 draw against Mallorca. “We’ve done it again, just as we have several times this season—we believe in ourselves and finish strong when we need to come back, and we’re happy about that. But it doesn’t erase how poorly we played in the first half. Today, we have to reflect and recognize our mistakes at certain points in the match, and we need to respond,” Lisci said.

Reflecting on the match, Lisci said, “We were better in the second half than in the first, although we still lacked clarity. We created several chances—both Kike and Víctor could have scored earlier. We didn’t expect Mallorca to use that system in the first half; it caught us off guard because nobody in Spain uses it right now. It’s a different setup that requires preparation, and we didn’t adjust well. That said, they didn’t create many chances either. Like against Valencia, when games get ugly or complicated, we need to switch to survival mode too.” He added, “We lost every second ball and played well below the tempo we want, both with and without possession.”

Lisci also praised the impact of his substitutes: “Everyone who came off the bench made a difference. Their contributions were extremely valuable, just like in the Valencia match. They didn’t secure us a draw then, but their performance was strong.”
