Osasuna to Allocate 450,755 euros Raised Toward Reconstruction of Massanassa Sports and Social Complex

The 9,490 donations received, along with support from Saltoki, will fund the rehabilitation of a multipurpose pavilion, swimming pools, fronton court, and a theater.

Club Atlético Osasuna will allocate the 450,755 euros raised through its Massanassa reconstruction social project to rehabilitate the town's sports complex and a theater in its cultural center. On Monday, a club delegation led by President Luis Sabalza met with the town's mayor, Francisco Antonio Comes, to visit the facilities that will benefit from the funds. The initiative will be formalized through an agreement between the club's foundation and the local government.

The funds were gathered thanks to the generosity of 9,490 individuals who made personal contributions, alongside a donation from the club and an additional 11,820 euros raised through Osasuna's Christmas lottery, contributed by 1,970 people who chose to donate their winnings.

During the visit to Massanassa, Sabalza was joined by Osasuna's coach and Massanassa native, Vicente Moreno, along with board members César Muniáin, José Andrés Burguete, and Josetxo Pérez de Zabalza, as well as sporting director Braulio Vázquez. The day began with a meeting at the town hall, followed by site visits to the facilities that will undergo renovations with support from Kosner—Osasuna's main sponsor—and Saltoki, an exclusive distributor specializing in plumbing, electrical, and construction materials with several centers in the Valencian Community.

Main Renovations Focused on Sports Complex

Osasuna's project will primarily focus on rehabilitating Massanassa's sports complex. Starting next school year, the facility will temporarily host local preschools until the original buildings—destroyed by severe weather caused by the DANA storm—can be rebuilt.

Planned renovations include a partial reconstruction of the multipurpose pavilion, including installing new flooring and restroom doors and painting locker rooms and spectator stands. Damage caused by humidity to the stands, hallways, restrooms, and locker rooms will also be repaired. The municipal swimming pools will be restored in time for summer, with work on the pump room, installation of a new electrical panel, ceramic lining, and perimeter grating.

Further upgrades include repainting the fronton court, installing flooring for two paddle tennis courts, and refurbishing public paella grills through structural repairs and the placement of fire-resistant bricks and wood supplies. The project will also include installing perimeter fencing around the sports complex and a new metal access gate and doors for exterior locker rooms.

Rebuilding a Cultural Hub

Osasuna's efforts will also extend to a small theater in the heart of Massanassa's cultural center, which was entirely devastated by the DANA storm. The theater also serves as a community hub for retirees and young people and a library. Renovations will include removing the remnants of the old ceiling, upgrading the heating and electrical systems, and installing a new acoustic ceiling, lighting, climate control, and new seating. The space will also undergo repainting and treatment to prevent future humidity damage.

Before allocating the funds, Osasuna's staff worked closely with local government officials to identify and prioritize the most critical infrastructure repairs.

Luis Sabalza: "We Want to Act Directly in Massanassa"

Osasuna President Luis Sabalza shared the purpose of the club's visit: "First, we came here to see firsthand what has happened in Massanassa. More importantly, we're here to manage the donations received for this cause. We've met with the mayor and council members to assess the needs. The mayor mentioned that this support from our members and the people of Navarre will allow for direct action without excessive bureaucracy, which is what truly matters. It's essential to provide satisfaction to the people of Massanassa while ensuring Osasuna supporters know exactly where their contributions are going."

He also emphasized the importance of allowing children to return to sports activities in their town: "The mayor told us that 14 buses are currently transporting children to other towns. It seems better to establish temporary schools within the sports complex, where there's enough space, while the new schools are being built. This way, children can stay in their town and enjoy sports in their free time." Sabalza expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed: "We're proud to show that Osasuna is more than just a football club—it's a club with heart and solidarity. Our fans and members wanted to help this town, and it's even more meaningful with our coach being from here. I can only say I'm satisfied and, above all, very grateful."

Vicente Moreno: "Osasuna Will Always Be Part of Massanassa's History"

Osasuna coach Vicente Moreno expressed gratitude for the project's impact on his hometown: "I am eternally grateful. We've discussed at the town hall how Osasuna will forever be part of Massanassa's history. It's not just personal; it affects everyone here. Hearing the personal stories of the residents makes you realize that while some will overcome these challenges, others will face difficulties not just now but in the future."

He concluded with a heartfelt message: "I would love to personally thank everyone who contributed in any way. The support has been overwhelming. I take this opportunity to thank you again—it's impossible to express my gratitude enough."

Francisco Comes: "Sports Facilities Are Our Priority"

Massanassa's mayor, Francisco Antonio Comes, expressed his gratitude and explained why the focus was on rehabilitating the town's sports complex: "First and foremost, I want to thank Osasuna, its board, and everyone involved for what this means to us. We held a meeting to determine how best to use the donations from Osasuna supporters. For us, prioritizing the sports facilities was essential, as other areas like social welfare are more stable for now. After working extensively with social services to help people repair their homes and support small businesses, we believe that restoring these facilities is crucial for returning to normalcy. Sports offer an escape and a way to heal."

Comes acknowledged Moreno's early support: "Just a few days after the storm, Vicente called me to tell me Osasuna wanted to help by organizing a donation campaign. After coordinating with the club's general director, the initiative took off and raised significant money. We're incredibly grateful."

The 450,755 euros raised by Club Atlético Osasuna for Massanassa's reconstruction could continue to grow. Those wishing to contribute can do so by transferring funds to Fundación Osasuna's bank account at La Caixa (ES44 2100 5324 9202 0002 1176).
