Osasuna scores last minute goal to defeat Real Madrid 2-1

Los Rojillos, playing at their best, defeated the league leaders in a dramatic finish thanks to a last-minute goal from forward Raúl García.

Osasuna (9-6-10, 33 points) and the home crowd at El Sadar celebrated a spectacular 2-1 victory over Real Madrid (10-3-3, 60 points), who had not lost at Osasuna's stadium in 15 years. The Rojillos took the lead with a penalty converted by forward Ante Budimir, but Real Madrid equalized in the 73rd minute through forward Vinicius Jr. Osasuna did not back down, and forward Raúl García secured a memorable win for the hosts in the final minute of regulation.

Osasuna threatened first in the 18th minute, when Budimir fired just wide from outside the box. Minutes later, the Croatian striker nearly opened the scoring with a close-range header from a midfielder Rubén García's cross, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois cleared the ball off the line. In the 34th minute, Budimir went down in the area after a challenge involving defender Raúl Asencio and Courtois. The referee initially booked Budimir for simulation, but after a VAR review, awarded a penalty to the hosts. Budimir converted from the spot to ignite celebrations at El Sadar.

Head coach Alessio Lisci's Osasuna continued to press Courtois’ goal. On the counterattack, forward Víctor Muñoz raced past defender Dani Carvajal, but midfielder Eduardo Camavinga blocked his shot. As the first half drew to a close, Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera made a strong save to turn away a shot from midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

In the second half, Osasuna stood firm defensively as Real Madrid pushed for an equalizer. Midfielder Arda Güler tried his luck from the edge of the box, but his shot flew just over the bar. In the 73rd minute, Madrid leveled the score when Vini Jr. finished off a midfielder Federico Valverde cross.

Osasuna refused to give in, and Raúl sent El Sadar into raptures with a stunning goal in the final minute of regulation. The goal was initially disallowed for offside, but VAR overturned the decision. Forward Raúl Moro set up Osasuna’s No. 9, who cut inside Asencio and finished superbly past the Belgian keeper.

Osasuna’s next match is Sunday, March 1, at 4:15 p.m. against Valencia CF at Mestalla.
