A hard-earned point, a point full of hope
Osasuna earns a point at the tough Estadio Benito Villamarín
Club Atlético Osasuna (10-15-10, 45 points) earned a road point in a 1–1 draw against Real Betis (16-10-9, 58 points) on Sunday night at Estadio Benito Villamarín. Forward Ante Budimir scored his 19th LaLiga goal of the season (21st in all competitions) to equalize after the hosts took the lead just past the hour mark.
Osasuna limited Betis' offensive threats in the first half while creating several opportunities. Forward Bryan Zaragoza tested goalkeeper Adrián with a powerful shot, forcing a strong save shortly before the break.
Real Betis gained momentum early in the second half, and forward Cucho Hernández scored in the 64th minute. Despite falling behind, Osasuna remained composed and gradually pushed forward in search of an equalizer.
The breakthrough came when defender Jesús Areso delivered a cross into the box. Midfielder Aimar Oroz redirected the ball to Budimir, who fired home to level the match. With the score tied, Osasuna continued pressing for a winner. Budimir nearly scored again, but Adrián tipped his effort wide. In the final 10 minutes, forward Raúl García struck the crossbar with a header and sent another chance wide in stoppage time.
Osasuna returns to El Sadar for its final two home fixtures of the LaLiga EA Sports season. The team hosts Atlético de Madrid on Thursday, May 15, at 7 p.m. CET (6 p.m. BST / 1 p.m. ET), followed by a matchup against Espanyol on Sunday, May 18, also at 7 p.m. CET.
