Osasuna drops its first home game of the year against Real Betis

Los Rojillos fell after leaving everything on the field

Club Atlético Osasuna (4-3-3, 15 points) fell against Real Betis (4-3-3, 15 points) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, marking Los Rojillos' first loss at El Sadar this season. The visiting side got early on the scoreboard thanks to forward Vitor Roque, but Osasuna continued to fight, even equalizing the game in the second via midfielder Lucas Torró. However, they couldn't hold on as forward Chimy Ávila scored the game-winner in the last stretch of the match.

The game started with the visiting side getting an early lead before the 10th minute, as Roque scored off a cross from midfielder Aitor Ruibal. However, the goal seemed to be a wake-up call for the men in red as they gained control of the ball and pressed the opposition. In the 15th minute, midfielder Bryan Zaragoza had the first opportunity for the Rojillos when he tested goalkeeper Rui Silva from outside the box. Two minutes later, Zaragoza made a solo effort to the byline and passed the ball to midfielder Aimar Oroz, whose shot from inside the box went over the box.

Los Verdiblancos answered the attempts with shots from Roque and defender Héctor Bellerín. Still, defender Alejandro Catena cleared the danger off the line in the former, and goalkeeper Sergio Herrera made an enormous save to stop the latter. Those were the last dangerous opportunities for the Andalusians during the first half. The Navarrese continued to push forward, with Zaragoza and midfielder Rubén García having clear chances that were blocked, and forward Ante Budimir had another one saved by Silva.

After the break, Osasuna began to gain control of the match and had some chances. Right before the hour mark, Torró found the equalizer of a set piece. With the game tied, head coach Vicente Moreno's team kept looking to gain the lead and both Zaragoza and Budimir had chances that missed the target. It was on a free kick where Ávila scored the winner. Despite being down, Los Rojillos continued to create chances. In stoppage time, defender Natan was ejected after committing a rough tackle on forward Raúl García; the referee first awarded a yellow card but, upon VAR review, reversed the call.

Los Rojillos will now travel to San Sebatián to face Real Sociedad in Week 11 of LaLiga EA Sports on Sunday, October 27, at Reale Arena. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. BST/4 p.m. ET).
