Osasuna defeats Celta 3-2 at El Sadar in an exciting match

Osasuna (2-1-1, 7 points) defeated Celta (2-0-2, 6 points) 3-2 at El Sadar on Sunday afternoon. The day started with the club announcing midfielder Aimar Oroz’s contract extension through 2029, bringing the stadium cheers and applauses. Once the game began, defenders Enzo Boyomo and Abel Bretones scored their first Primera División goals. For Boyomo, the goal came in his first match representing the Navarrese squad. Forward Borja Iglesias equalized for Celta shortly after the French-Cameroonian’s goal, but defender Carlos Domínguez returned the lead to the Rojillos with an own goal. Following Bretones’ goal, which extended the lead, an own goal cut the distance for the visiting side in stoppage.

Following a start in which goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was crucial in keeping Celta from taking the lead, Osasuna began to take charge and create damage. In the 22nd minute, midfielder Jon Moncayola stepped to the corner spot and delivered a cross to the box, finding forward Ante Budimir, who passed the ball to Boyomo, and the defender didn’t miss to open the score. A shot from midfielder Rubén García followed the goal, but goalkeeper Iván Villar stopped the ball from going in.  A few minutes later, Celta tied the match thanks to Iglesias. Los Rojillos continued to fight, and towards the break, midfielder Bryan Zaragoza tried to play a pass to Aimar, but the ball bounced on a visiting defender and gave back the lead to the home side.

In the second half, Celta made three changes from the get-go, trying to change the story, but head coach Vicente Moreno's team held it down. In a fast break, Bretones galloped down the field and scored the third goal for Osasuna. The Galicians tried to cut the distance with a dangerous shot, but Herrera denied them. In the dying minutes, forward Alfonso González was ejected from the game due to a bad foul on defender Jesús Areso – however, despite going down a man, they could cut the lead right at the stoppage time.

With the win, Osasuna heads into the international break and is set to return on Monday, September 16, to face Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas. Kickoff will occur at 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET).
