Osasuna seals the first win of the season against Mallorca 1-0

Osasuna and El Sadar recorded their first victory of the 2024-25 season against Mallorca 1-0 at El Sadar. In a match with many chances, los Rojillos dominated the game and won thanks to a goal by midfielder Rubén García in the second half.

Osasuna had more dominance and the best opportunities to take the lead in an evenly-matched first half. The first approaches came with side crosses, however clearest chances were when forward Ante Budimir and midfielder Aimar Oroz put goalkeeper Dominik Greif to the test with two shots from outside the box. In the 32nd minute, Aimar had the closest opportunity when his shot hit the woodwork. For their part, Mallorca also tried with a long-range shot deflected by goalkeeper Sergio Herrera and, in stoppage time, with a header by Asano that went over the crossbar.

In the second half, the team led by head coach Vicente Moreno started strong and managed to generate two good chances early on with two shots from the edge of the area by Moncayola and Bryan that went narrowly wide. Finally, García gave los Rojillos the lead when he took advantage of a play with several rejections inside the area. With the 1-0 on the scoreboard, Mallorca tried to take a step forward and reach the area, especially with lateral crosses in search of Muriqui. Still, the Osasuna backline and Herrera were able to stop them.

Los Rojillos's next match will be on Thursday, August 29, when they face Girona at Montilivi. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CET (6 p.m. BST/1 p.m. ET) in Week 3 of LALIGA EA SPORTS.
