Osasuna and Leganés play to a 1-1 draw in season opener

Midfielder Aimar Oroz scored the equalizer for Los Rojillos in the final stretch of the match

Club Atlético Osasuna and Club Deportivo Leganés drew 1-1 in their season debut on Saturday afternoon at El Sadar. Forward Juan Cruz scored the opening goal of the day to put the visiting side ahead, while midfielder Aimar Oroz scored the equalizer in the final stretch of the match.

Both teams kicked off the season by creating chances and showing good performance. Los Pepineros knocked first when defender Javi Hernández fired from a direct free kick, but his attempt missed to the right. In the 13th minute, defender Abel Bretones sent a cross to midfielder Rubén García, who headed the ball and saw his attempt go over the crossbar.

Leganés tried again when forward Miguel de la Fuente headed from close range, but goalkeeper Sergio Herrera parried the ball. However, shortly after, Cruz found a cross from Hernández and connected with his left foot to give his team the lead. After the goal, Los Rojillos pushed forward and pressed the opponent but couldn't equalize before the half.

In the second half, Aimar got closed when he collected a cross from García, but the Leganés backline cleared the danger. From there, Los Rojillos began to gain momentum and created chances. Aimar found forward Ante Budimir after a solo play, but the goalkeeper Juan Soriano conceded a corner kick. Defender Alejandro Catena headed the ball in the following play, but Soriano got a hand on it again. In the 80th minute, Osasuna tied the match with a rocket from Aimar. Forward Bryan Zaragoza almost won the game for the Navarrese side when he fired a rocket from outside the box, but Soriano got a hand on it and changed the ball's direction to the woodwork.

Osasuna returns to El Sadar on Saturday, August 24, to face R.C.D. Mallorca in Week 2 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CET (4 p.m. BST/11 a.m. ET).
