Club Atlético Osasuna falls 2-1 to Deportivo Alavés
Midfielder Iker Muñoz tied for Osasuna three minutes after forward Luka Romero scored the opener and defender Protesoni scored the winner in the last minute.
Club Atlético Osasuna fell 2-1 against Deportivo Alavés in its last preseason game in Tajonar on Saturday afternoon. Midfielder Iker Muñoz scored Los Rojillos' lone goal to equalize the edge forward Luka Romero gave the visitors. Still, defender Protesoni gave the win to his side with a last-minute header off a corner.
The game started with both teams sharing the possession of the ball and the backlines stopping each other's attacks. Defenders Jesús Areso and Abel Bretones proved crucial for the home side, as their speed allowed their team to find the byline. Los Rojillos' first chance came when Bretones ran down the flank and attempted to find forward Ante Budimir, but the Alavés defense cleared the danger. In the first half's last play, Budimir tried from inside the box, but goalkeeper Antonio Sivera stopped the ball.
Alavés took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Romero collected a ball from defender Alejandro Jay inside the box and placed it in the right upper corner. Osasuna answered three minutes later with a bicycle from Muñoz off a corner kick. From there, both sides remained even, and it wasn't until the final minutes when midfielder Pablo Ibáñez tried from outside the box, but his shot went wide. Right before the referee ended the game, Alavés won a corner kick from the left side, which Protesoni headed into the net.
Osasuna's next game will be on Saturday, August 17, at El Sadar against Leganés in Week 1 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CET (6 p.m. BST/2 p.m. ET).
