Osasuna tops Real Sociedad 2-1 in its fourth preseason friendly
A second-half brace by forward Ante Budimir leads Los Rojillos to victory
Zubieta, Spain (Wednesday, July 31, 2024) – Club Atlético Osasuna tops Real Sociedad 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Zubieta. Forward Ante Budimir nets a second-half brace to lead the Rojillos to victory.
Los Rojillos’ first opportunity came when forward Jose Arnaiz blasted a rocket from outside the box, but his shot went wide. Following the opportunity, both teams presented themselves well organized on the back and kept each other at bay. In the 45th minute, midfielder Jon Moncayola found defender Alejandro Catena from the corner spot, but the defender’s header was saved by goalkeeper Unai Marrero.
Osasuna started the second, being the better team, and five minutes into it, Los Rojillos was already up on the scoreboard. Defender Jesús Areso ran down the right flank and sent a low cross where Budimir with one touch directed the ball to the back of the net. The home side answered quickly as Pablo Marín played a through ball to forward Mikel Goti, who placed the ball past goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. Despite the equalizer, the Osasuna remained solid and continued to push forward. The effort paid off when Moncayola sent a cross to the box where Budimir controlled the ball with his chest and fired a volley to regain the lead. In the game's final minutes, a good performance by the Rojillo backline allowed the team to win.
Los Rojillos will return to action on Saturday, August 3, to face Athletic Club in the Euskal Herriko Txapela at Lasesarre Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CET (7:30 p.m. BST/2:30 p.m. ET).
