Osasuna falls 2-1 against Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas

Midfielder Moi Gómez gave the lead to los rojillos

Madrid (Saturday, April 20, 2024) – Club Atlético Osasuna (11-6-15, 39 points) fell 2-1 against Rayo Vallecano (7-13-12, 34 points) at Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday afternoon.

The Navarrese side hit first when midfielder Moi Gómez battled his way inside the box and scored his third goal with a left footed shot. Los de Vallecas continued to fight and, in the dying minutes of the match, scored twice to take the three points. In the 80th minute, defender Pep Chavarría tied the game, and four minutes later, midfielder Isi Palazón sentenced the game for his team.

Osasuna started the game hot, giving a warning in the sixth minute through midfielder Rubén García, who collected a long pass from defender Jorge Herrando and, with great control, made his way into the box, but his attempt missed the target by a few inches. The rojillo threat continued with shots from Gómez, García and midfielder Iker Muñoz, but none found the back of the net.

In the second half, Rayo Vallecano tried to even the score, but a well-organized rojillo backline denied them any chances. However, the home side continued to fight and broke down the backline in the last stretch of the match to win the game with two goals from 18 yards out.

Los rojillos' next game will be on Sunday, April 28, against Granada CF at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes in Week 33 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. CET (3:15 p.m. BST/10:15 a.m. ET).
