Osasuna falls 2-0 at Montilivi against Girona
Goals by midfielder Portu and forward Sàvio secured the three points for Girona.
Girona, Spain (Saturday, March 9, 2024) – Club Atlético Osasuna (10-6-12, 36 points) fell 2-0 against Girona Fútbol Club (19-5-4, 62 points) at Estadi Montilivi on Saturday night. Goals by midfielder Portu and forward Sàvio secured the three points for Girona.
The home side took the lead in the 13th minute when forward Viktor Tsygankov played a through ball to Portu into the box. After controlling the ball, Portu fired a right footed shot into the bottom left corner to open the scoring. Despite going down on the score, los rojillos continued to push forward, looking for an equalizer. In the 30th minute, midfielder Lucas Torró found defender Johan Mojica at the edge of the box, and the Colombian international blasted a left-footed shot that missed the right post. Minutes later, midfielder Jon Moncayola tried from the same distance, but his shot missed the target.
In the second half, los rojillos continued to work on the flanks to tie the match, but Girona stopped any dangerous cross. Girona had an opportunity to extend the lead off a corner when forward Artem Dovbyk headed the ball, but goalkeeper Sergio Herrera got a hand on it to stop it from going in. The game remained even until the final stretch when Moncayola tried once again, but goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga saved the shot. In the 86th minute, midfielder Aleix García found Sàvio, who sealed the game with a left footed shot.
Los rojillos will return to El Sadar on Saturday, March 16, at 4:15 p.m. CET (3:15 p.m. GMT/11:15 a.m. ET) to face Real Madrid in Week 29 of LaLiga EA Sports.
