A late goal makes El Sadar erupt
Forward Raúl García scores his first goal of the season in the 95th minute.
Pamplona (Friday, December 15, 2023) – Club Atlético Osasuna earned a 1-0 win against Rayo Vallecano in stoppage time on Friday night at El Sadar. Forward Raúl García scored the game-winning goal in the 90+5', making this the third time los rojillos defeated the team from Vallecas in the 90th minute or later.
Rayo Vallecano knocked first at El Sadar when goalkeeper Sergio Herrera parried away a dangerous free kick from defender Florian Lejeune. Osasuna started controlling the game as time passed by creating chances from the flanks. Midfielder Moi Gómez tried his luck from the distance in the dying minutes of the first half, but goalkeeper Stole Dimitrevski saved the shot.
In the second half, the Navarrese side had the first opportunity when defender Rubén Peña reached the byline, but his cross couldn't find a finisher. Soon after, Herrera had another key save when he stopped a shot from forward Raúl de Tomás. Little by little, Osasuna began creating more chances through the corridors. In the 78th minute, midfielder Iker Muñoz shook the crossbar with a header following a corner kick. It wasn't until the 90+4th minute when los rojillos won a corner kick, and seconds later, García made El Sadar erupt as he raised above the Rayo's defenders and placed the ball past Dimitresvki.
Osasuna will close out the year at Estadi Mallorca Soi Moix against RCD Mallorca on Thursday, December 21, at 9:30 p.m. CET (8:30 p.m. GMT/3:30 p.m. ET) in Week 18 of LaLiga EA Sports.
