Osasuna falls 2-1 against Real Betis in stoppage time
Midfielder Rubén García found the equalizer late in the game, but Real Betis scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time.
Seville (Sunday, October 29, 2023) – Club Atlético Osasuna (4-1-6, 13 points) fell 2-1 to Real Betis (4-5-2, 17 points) at Estadio Benito Villamarín on Sunday afternoon. Los rojillos tied the game in the 85th minute thanks to a goal by midfielder Rubén García, but midfielder Isco gave the win to los verdiblancos in stoppage time.
During the first half, Osasuna worked through the flanks to find forward Ante Budimir, but the home defenders always found a way to intercept the ball. For Real Betis, their best chances came via forward Willian José and Isco, but their attempts missed the target. However, in the last play of the half, Willian collected a pass from Isco and gave the lead to his team from a close range.
After the break, head coach Jagoba Arrasate sent forward Raúl García and defender Johan Mojica to the field in an attempt to find more depth up front. Four minutes later, García had found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed as Budimir was caught offside. Midfielders Aimar Oroz and Lucas Torró tried from a distance, but both missed the target. Los verdiblancos had an opportunity to extend the lead when it seemed that forward Assane Diao was tackled inside the box by defender David García, who was already cautioned in a previous play. However, after a VAR review, the referee called off the penalty and reversed García's second yellow card.
In the 85th minute, García received a long cross from defender Alejandro Catena and equalized the game. Yet, in stoppage time, Isco recovered a loose ball inside the box and secured the three points for his team.
Osasuna will be back in action on Saturday, November 4, at 2 p.m. CET (1 p.m. GMT/9 a.m. ET) against Girona at El Sadar.
