“It is a tough loss,” head coach Jagoba Arrasate

The rojillo boss analyzed his team's defeat with the media.

Madrid (Saturday, October 7, 2023) – Osasuna head coach Jagoba Arrasate addressed the media after today's 4-0 loss against Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. During the press conference, the rojillo boss analyzed the game and the team's performance during the season.

"Overall, we only have a negative takeaway; there is no sugarcoating it. We are hurt. This is a tough loss," Arrasate said.

Regarding the match, the Berriatua native mentioned that there was a chance to keep even during the first half but noted the home side's superiority.

"In the first half, they were the better team, but we did have some moments where we were close to the gap, especially in that last play," he said. "Then, in the second half, our performance was under par. We didn't start well, and the second goal got us. From there, we just kept making mistakes, opening spaces, and when that happens against a team like Real Madrid, it's normal for you to get scored on."

When asked about the second half, the 45-year-old coach talked about how the second goal got the team out of sync, and from there, mistakes started happening.

"At the half, we talked about how well we did on the flanks. [Defender] Jesús Areso, [midfielder] Rubén García were creating damage, and [midfielder Jon] Moncayola's support was good," Arrasate said. "Defensively, we were somewhat organized, but on the second goal, we were not as clinical and didn't stop the play. From there, we began to overthink, and everything stopped working. We gave them more space, and Real Madrid took advantage of it. That's why the second half was so different."

The rojillo gaffer is ready to move and keep working as he believes the next month is crucial for the team since there are three home games. He also mentioned that even though it has not been an ideal start to the season, having 10 points in nine games is not so bad, considering the team's opponents.

"We are not happy. We have 10 points in nine games. However, we have faced four Champions League teams," Arrasate said. "We are coming up to a crucial month for us. We have three of the next four games at home. Our plan is to get over this and prepare for our next match against Granada. We are unhappy with the start of the season, but we know that we are heading into a critical stretch."
