Osasuna hosts football camp in Jamaica

Osasuna academy coaches have traveled to the Caribbean Island to host a week-long camp with local youth and coaches

Kingston, Jamaica (Monday, April 1, 2024) – Club Atlético Osasuna has sent academy strengthening and conditioning coach Iokin Lobo and individual and engagement optimization manager David Bandera to present the academy work model to Jamaican youngsters (ages 8-17) and local coaches. The football camp, which began today, will run through April 5. The rojillo academy is carrying out this international project along with Sports Innovation Group (SIG) – a Jamaican organization specializing in sports event management.

"Historically, Osasuna has always been a model in youth development and continues to be so with 'Metodo Tajonar,' its training program, which has become a worldwide reference in just a few years. Osasuna and its youth academy have become known thanks to the great players they have trained, who have achieved important milestones with different clubs worldwide," said the director of Tajonar Ángel Alcalde. "Now we have the opportunity to make known the players trained in Tajonar and the work method. A method developed in our academy, and we are taking it to the rest of the world to continue leaving our legacy in football."

The youngsters will learn first-hand how the rojillo academy works at the camp. Over the week, there will be two daily sessions in which participants will be divided into two groups depending on their ages; one group will consist of participants between the ages of 8 and 12 and the other between 13 and 17. The fifth day will be a day for participants to put into practice what they have learned through football matches.

Lobo and Bandera will work directly with the camp coaches to teach them how to run their sessions like they do at Tajonar.

"We want the Jamaican players to have fun playing football and to do so through the ideas that make up our methodological process. We hope that they enjoy themselves and learn about football and all the aspects surrounding it," Lobo commented. "This experience is not only for the players but also for the local coaches. We will show them our work methodology, Osasuna's values, direction, feedback, and the whole process related to setting a training session. We will conduct sessions with them in the first few days and then supervise and help the local coaches."

The camp is part of SIG's efforts to promote football on the island. The organization also seeks opportunities for young players to learn from European clubs and maximize their potential.

"This week, we want our players to continue developing their talent with a top-level academy. We have decided to work with Osasuna because of their success in developing players from their youth academy. Los rojillos' work in player development has proven to be top-notch, and we know that their methodology will help our players grow," said SIG general manager Paul Campbell.
