Club Atlético Osasuna captain, Oier Sanjurjo, will not continue in the club next season. The relationship between the club and one of the most relevant players in its centenary history will finish at the end of the season. The home-grown player will end his career as rojillo footballer after fourteen seasons in the first team. On the next 19th of May, there will be an event at El Sadar, where Oier could say goodbye to the fans and receive a deserved tribute.

Oier Sanjurjo Mate (25 May 1986; Estella) is a legend of Club Atlético Osasuna. Days before turning 36 years old, he gave up his life to defend the t-shirt of the club, where he came with sixteen years old from Club Deportivo Izarra. He will finish his stage as rojillo footballer after being the sixth player with the most official games in the club’s history. Actually, he has played 353 official games and could add more participation in this season-ending

The estelles player has represented the idiosyncrasy and values of Osasuna during his career. Oier took his debut with the first team on the 12th of December, 2007 in a Copa del Rey game against Real Club Deportivo Mallorca. Since then, the home-grown player has played in Osasuna except for the 2011/2012 season, when he went on loan to Real Club Celta de Vigo, where he helped to promote at Primera División. When he came back to Pamplona, Oier became one of the most important players on the team. After suffering some of the most difficult times in the history of the club, he has been one of the emblems in a rebuild time. After winning the Segunda División championship in 2019, he has contributed to reach three consecutive permanences and, with it, the growth of the club in the last years. Oier will finish his stage as footballer of the club and will leave Osasuna where it belongs

Luis Sabalza: “Oier has been, is and will be Osasuna”

The president of Club Atlético Osasuna, Luis Sabalza, has expressed his gratitude in name of the club to the footballer: “Oier is one of the most important players in the history of Osasuna. Finishing his stage as the sixth player with most official games in almost 102 years proves it. Beyond the numbers, I would like to highlight that Oier is an exemplary captain that has always perfectly represented Osasuna’s values. He has done it inside the pitch, with strong and effort, and outside. As president, and in name of the governing board and employees of the club, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Oier. I want to thank his commitment, fidelity and being an example for future generations. Oier has been, is and will be Osasuna.
