A point that tastes like too little for a better Osasuna (1-1)

Oier put the rojillos in the lead, who were superior, but the blue side scored the final 1-1

Club Atlético Osasuna tied (1-1) against Getafe Club de Fútbol in the penultimate game of the season at El Sadar. The rojillos were soon ahead on the scoreboard, but the Madrid team tied in an unfortunate action in the hosts’ box. Already in the second half, the Navarros controlled the game and had the best chances, but they were not lucky enough to certificate the victory.

Osasuna started the game dominating and, thanks to Oier, put themselves ahead on the scoreboard. Rubén García placed the ball in the heart of the box and the Osasuna captain, in a stunning header, placed the ball at the back of the net. Encouraged by the goal, the Reds could have extended the lead a few minutes later. A new cross from the left side found again Oier at the second post. The captain finished with a volley, but the ball went wide. Despite these initial minutes of red control, Getafe tied the match thanks to an unlucky action in the local box. Torró, trying to deflect a cross, ended up putting the ball in his own goal.

Getafe, which until then had no approach to Juan Pérez’s goal, was encouraged by the draw and made a quick counterattack through Oliveira. However, Unai Garcia was providential inside the box and thwarted the danger. Moreover, in the corner-kick caused by that move, Oliveira had a new chance with a header that went high. After this double chance, the Madrid team tried to take the control of the game, but the rojillos didn’t allow them to have more clear chances until the end of the first half. On the other hand, Osasuna tried again to generate danger through Kike Garcia and through Rubén García’s and Chimy’s wings. Despite this, they did not manage to achieve the visitors’ goal.

Control and chances, but without luck
Osasuna started strong again and Chimy Ávila, on the right wing, managed to generate two dangerous chances. In the second of them, after combining with Oier, he put a flat cross that Kike Garcia couldn’t reach iat point blank range. The rojillos continued putting pressure on the opposing box with crosses from both sides, until David Garcia, in a corner-kick, had another big shot. Osasuna’s central-back finished with a volley at the second post, but his shot hit Djene and was deflected.

Jagoba moved the bench in the 70th minute, giving entry to Darko, Moncayola and Budimir, who replaced R. Torres, Kike Garcia and Oier, who went out with a standing ovation. After the substitutions, Osasuna had a double chance with shots from Chimy Avila and Torró that Getafe’s defenses blocked. Shortly after, Kike Barja, who replaced Rubén García, had a new dangerous chance. The left-winger headed a corner-kick, but the ball went over the bar. Osasuna was left with one more man in the final minutes of the game after Mitrovic’s red card, who made a foul on Budimir as he was left alone against David Soria. That free-kick crashed into the wall, but after the rejection Kike Barja put a dangerous cross that didn’t find a finisher and David Soria caught.

Despite some new attempts through free-kicks and lateral crosses, Osasuna couldn’t get the three points. Thus, the rojillos bid farewell to the 36th round of LaLiga Santander with 47 points in total, which keeps the team in the ninth position. The next match will be this week, on Sunday at San Mamés to face the Athletic Club at 18.30.
